Network adapters in the current prototype.
This is the NIC list for the existing x86-64 stage-1 Buildroot QA image. If your NIC is not listed here, it is unsupported in this image. Use a listed adapter or wait for a later image with its driver.
1 GbE driver families in the image
The exact card must be recognised by the named driver. Models needing external firmware absent from the image are unsupported.
| Adapter family | Included driver | Connection |
|---|---|---|
| Intel Gigabit PCI/PCIe adapters using the legacy e1000 driver | e1000 · built into kernel | 1 GbE copper |
| Intel Gigabit PCIe adapters using e1000e, including 82574 and I219 families | e1000e · module in image | 1 GbE copper |
| Intel Gigabit PCIe adapters using igb, including I210/I211 and I350 families | igb · module in image | 1 GbE copper |
Realtek RTL8169 family where the specific device does not need external rtl_nic firmware | r8169 · module in image | 1 GbE copper |
The image includes no rtl_nic firmware files. Newer Realtek variants that require those files are outside this list.
No listed 2.5–25 GbE adapters yet.
The current image contains no listed 2.5, 5 or 10 GbE copper NIC and no listed 1, 10 or 25 GbE SFP, SFP+ or SFP28 NIC. Those adapters are unsupported in this image. A later source configuration targets wider coverage, but it is not the image described here.
Virtual NICs available
| Virtual NIC | Included driver | Status |
|---|---|---|
| KVM / Proxmox / QEMU VirtIO network | virtio_net · built into kernel | Boot and DHCP passed in nested KVM QA |
| Emulated Intel e1000 or e1000e | e1000 built in; e1000e module | Drivers included in image |
VMware vmxnet3, Hyper-V netvsc, Xen netfront and cloud virtual NIC drivers are not included in this image and are unsupported here.
Inventory checked from the image's SquashFS root and build kernel configuration on 22 October 2026. The KVM VirtIO result comes from the stage-1 boot QA receipt for this exact image hash.
